Population Media Center builds a sustainable planet with equal rights for all by providing hit entertainment that changes lives. PMC has positively impacted 500 million people in more than 50 countries around the world.
Highlights from our Spring 2020 Newsletter are below:
Lights. Camera. ¡Acción! On January 20th, film reels rolled and cameras flashed as Vencer el Miedo (“Overcome the Fear”) launched to dramatic fanfare in Mexico. The co-production of PMC and Televisa set out with a sky-high goal: to captivate viewers across Mexico while inspiring social change, addressing challenges affecting young women across the nation.
PMC has been named a finalist in Fast Company’s 2020 World Changing Ideas in Media and Entertainment. The winners honor the businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that are actively engaged and deeply committed to flattening the curve when it comes to the climate crisis, social injustice, and economic inequality.
Viruses like Covid-19 don’t care about where you live, your gender, or your socio-economic status, but these demographic characteristics impact your risk. Social distancing can be difficult when groups must gather to collect water. Washing your hands becomes challenging without water or soap.
Population Media Center stands for a sustainable planet with equal rights for all. This does not mean securing rights for only some people, valuing some lives. We at PMC demand justice, equality, and inclusiveness. The health and wellbeing of people and planet depend upon it.
In light of the growing concerns around Covid-19, we at PMC are adapting our current practices to ensure the health and safety of our workforce, our partners, and the communities around us.
Earl Babbie first met Bill Ryerson, PMC’s President and Founder, in the mid-1970s, more than 20 years before Bill formed Population Media Center. Earl was the Chairman of the Sociology Department at the University of Hawaii, and Bill was speaking on campus. Although the two had never met, Bill stayed at Earl’s home for the duration of his visit.
